Hello and welcome back to another monthly newsletter! I am going to start by apologising for the lateness of this one. I must admit, I had completely forgotten that last Sunday was the final Sunday in September. The month seems to have just flown by in a blur of wonderful events and celebrations. So please do forgive the lateness of this months newsletter and I hope the paying subscribers enjoyed their post last week!
Unusually, I have absolutely no sewing to share at all. I did a lot in August and although I have been working on a little make it isn’t quite finished yet so do forgive the lack of sewing in this months newsletter. September has been a rather exciting month though, and I’ve got a lot to catch you up on so grab yourself a cuppa and let’s dive in!
This Month I’ve Been Knitting…
I started this month by working on the cutest little baby knit for my niece. Her 1st birthday was in the middle of September and so I knew I wanted to make her something autumnal for the occasion. I opted for this simple but very cute cable knit cardigan which I have made before. I wasn’t sure what colour to pick but in the end I went for this lovely green colour as I thought it would best compliment her blonde hair. I wanted to really go to town on the autumn vibes for this one and so I was absolutely over joyed when I found these acorn buttons at my local yarn shop, The Fibre Works Chipping Norton. They were the perfect addition and not too fiddly to do up like some novelty buttons. I’ve already had a picture of my niece in this cardigan and she looks so sweet!
The other finished make in September was also a baby knit! My husbands colleague has had a little baby girl and none of the lads in the office had any idea what to get for him when he came back from paternity leave… I knew the best thing to do was to whip up a pair of super cute booties and I must admit I am totally in love with them. This pattern was so easy to follow and it comes in a huge size range. I can definitely see myself knitting a few more of these for my nephews and niece this winter.
This Month I’ve Been Reading…
I mentioned this book, What The Amish Can Teach Us About The Simple Life by Georgia Varozza , in my autumn reads post as one of the books I was really hoping to get to this season. It is a very small book and it didn’t take very long to get stuck into it. I absolutely loved it! Filled with very interesting insight into the Amish way of life, this book gives practical tips for leading a quieter, slower life without giving everything up completely. It takes the fundamentals of amish life; community, faith, thriftiness, self sufficiency e.t.c. and applies them to a modern day life. I found it very insightful and there were some great ideas which I hope to apply to my own slow and simple life. I highly recommend a read.
This Month I’ve Been Watching…
Some of you will know I have a Youtube channel where I share all things sewing and knitting. But I also love to watch other peoples channels so I thought each month I would give a recommendation of a channel I love to watch. The last few months I have been enjoying a new to me knitting podcast from two lovely ladies. Those Twins Who Knit is a regular knitting podcast on YouTube where Rachel and Jess share their beautiful hand knit and sometimes sewn creations. Their style is chic and elegant and their knitwear reflects this. I have found so much inspiration in their beautiful makes and look forward to their regular updates.
This Month I’ve Been Visiting…
I was lucky enough to attend two amazing events this month. The first was Goodwood Revival, an epic three day vintage car racing event where I wore handmade outfits all weekend and was working on a feature for Simply Sewing Magazine. I got to interview some really interesting people and listened to some amazing talks on sustainable fashion. If you want to see more of what I got up to you can watch the vlog here.
The second event I attended this month was Unravel Festival. This is my first time attending the autumn version of Unravel which is a little smaller and therefore quieter. I must admit I actually really preferred it being like that. I was sad to miss out on seeing some of my favourite yarn producers but the ability to wander around the show without too many people and always find a seat when I needed it, was great! As a disabled woman, big busy events are not the easiest and so it was nice to experience something a little different.
I met up with many of my lovely online friends, it is always such a joy to meet people in real life! And of course, I purchased a few skeins of yarn. You can see what I got up to in the vlog over on my YouTube channel.
This Month I’ve Been Loving…
Autumn is my favourite season of the year and so I am always so excited to get started. I often forget that the first few weeks of September are much more summery then I would like so I have been loving seeing the season begin to really change in the last week of September. The leaves are beginning to turn, the temperatures have cooled and we’ve had an awful lot of rain. I’m not such a big fan of the rain as it has caused a lot of flooding, but I have enjoyed the excuse it brings to cosy up inside and knit. I can’t wait for more evenings under the blanket working away on all my projects.
I hope you all had a wonderful September and that you’re as excited for the new season as I am! I will be sharing lots of lovely autumn articles over the coming weeks so if you enjoy my content and would like more from me, you might like to think about upgrading your subscription to paid. Upgrading not only helps to support me and my work and help me continue creating content, but it will also bring you a new article each week with inspiration, recipes, book reviews and how to’s for living a handmade, homegrown and slow life. I’d love for you to join us!
