I stepped outside into my garden with the watering can. It was the end of the day and I was very tired. My fatigue had been very bad recently due to a series of difficult situations and I really could not be bothered with the task of watering. Our small mid terraced home in the Cotswolds has no outside tap. We looked at putting one in for the back garden but it was such a ridiculously convoluted operation including running pipes into the loft and down the side of the house that we decided to continue with the watering cans filled and carried from the kitchen. But in the height of summer when it’s been hot for days and I have to fill and refill the watering can about eight times, I can get pretty fed up.
